Project title: Berryteuthis magister (armhook squid) demographics
I grew up in Minnesota, started off in Wisconsin for my undergraduate in biology, decided to do an exchange to Juneau and ended up staying here to finish my undergraduate in fisheries and ocean science.
For my first independent research project; I cultivated and maintained marine systems for phytoplankton and zooplankton. The more I learned about them, the more fascinating they became.
My second research project consists of gaining demographic data for the Berryteuthus magister armhook squid species in preparation for an emerging fishery here in Juneau. As well as partnering with a fellow research student whose focus is on ageing B. magister. Further research goals include artificially fertilizing B. Magister to better understand their life history and ecology by observing their larval state. Currently there are only 12 species of squid that have been artificially fertilized, B. magister is not yet part of those 12.
